“Respect Our Vote – No Recalls” Says Community Coalition Community Meeting
(Oakland CA)— A new grassroots coalition has formed in response to a major conservative threat to voters’ rights in Oakland and Alameda County, bluntly calling itself: “Respect Our Vote – No Recalls.” While outside monied interests are paying for the recalls, other recall backers include supporters of those who lost the last election and those who are opposed to progressive reforms, according to anti-recall organizers.Piedmont resident and venture capitalist, Philip Dreyfuss, has provided three-quarters of the funding for one of the recalls.
Among those throwing their energies into the coalition are representatives of labor unions, the faith community, nonprofit organizations, local Democratic clubs including the Latino Taskforce, African American community organizations, Asian and Pacific Islander organizations, Oakland Rising Action, the Green Party, teachers, the Wellstone Club and others.
WHAT: Community Meeting and Press Event to Call for a No Vote on Recalls
WHEN: Saturday at 1pm
WHERE: At Thy Word Ministries, 8915 International Boulevard, Oakland
SPEAKERS: Rev BK Woodson (Bay Area Christian Connection), Jess Inson (Oakland Rising Action), Stewart Chen (Chinatown Improvement Council), Mariano Contreras (Latino Taskforce), Nicole Deane (Care For Communities), Carmen Peng (Asian Americans for A Progressive Alameda)

This is a large coalition concerned about the outside group that fomented and paid to get recalls on the ballot.
This very small clique of rich tech bros hired the majority of signature gatherers who used lies to encourage Oaklanders to sign these petitions. They seem to believe their vast wealth should enable them to dictate policy in many communities.
None of them live in or care about Oakland. They were goaded into interfering by corporate landlords who felt they were losing control of their money machines after tenants had been granted a grid of protections by the most recent cuty council.
Sheng’s mistakes as mayor have been PR in nature not governing mistakes. Her biggest problem has been the ability to provide services with a shrunken, overworked city staff. This situation is a continuing result of the Pandemic and is national in scope.
For instance, while it may not have looked good for her to take an overseas trip in her first year, she truly believed that Oakland needed to broaden its economic reach and Viet Nam is an important emerging market. It will take bit if time for the result to be seen.
Signature gatherers also lied about whether Pamela Price had charged the murderers of a toddler but she did in fact offer very serious charges amounting to life in prison.
If either of these recalls go through, at least Oakland and possibly the county, face months of chaos. Then residents will really have something to complain about.
We need to fight these outside forces and focus on the work ahead. No Recalls. See you at 8915 International on Saturday afternoon!
